About the Artist
At the core of Myat Kyawt’s (b. 1966, Myanmar) artistic philosophy lies a dedication to the nuances of daily life—a celebration of life’s simple pleasures. This approach is evident in his works that capture both religious and everyday scenes through personal ties and experiences, often featuring domestic settings, his family and occasionally himself. An artist who embraces experimentation, he constantly explores diverse forms of expression. Boldly and vibrantly coloured, his whimsical portrayals of the mundane exude a child-like wonder, reminding us of the enchantment that resides in our daily experiences.
While enrolled at the State of School of Fine Arts Mandalay, Myanmar, Myat Kwayt studied under artists U Nyo Pyar, U Tin Moc and U Khin Maung Sann. He first gained public attention when he became a finalist at the Myanmar Contemporary Art Award in 2004. He has since exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions in Myanmar and internationally.
