Familiar objects often go unnoticed because we are so accustomed to them. The artworks grouped in this narrative examine the significance of such ordinary objects, what they reveal about our lives and how they construct our experiences of the world. Thinking through the genre of still life, these works employ commonplace objects to explore the representation of culture, unofficial histories and the projection of desires. The artists in this narrative engage with the materiality and visuality of mundane and overlooked objects to express complex ideas.
