Narrative Description

Through their actions, artists transform the mundane into incisive instruments of expression. The interplay of the body with the material world produces physical consequences and become objects of art. Text, as an extension of the body, performs shared understanding, and when language is made material, visualised or fragmented, agency is given to the material, and embraced by the artwork (and artist). And where matter and their inherent properties influence artistic forms, what is manifest is not only human interventions, but also how these material outcomes register history. The meaning of these evidences shift across time and space. Artworks grouped in this narrative give a physicality to the actions of artists which persists beyond the moments of their occurrence. As distinct but related forms to performance, the works draw a direct connection between the conceptual and the formal, and the intangible and the material, to offer different propositions for acting on and being acted on by the external world.
